PC PC GAMES

Ubisoft… you can shove it!

by on Feb.19, 2010, under News

If you listened to our podcast or even know us personally you know that we are big fans of game development on the PC and we love every quality release on the PC. In one of our previous podcast I mentioned the delay of Assassin’s Creed II while disappointing was OK as long as the game would feel and look better on the PC. It seems most of the extra time went for UBI to implement it’s new DRM scheme and this new system is spelling disaster for UBI’s future PC games. Assassin’s Creed II and Silent Hunter was on my ‘for sure’ buy list, now it dropped below DO NOT TOUCH! To lose my game and/or game progress when my comcast yet again hick-ups or I travel and I am without a Internet connection for an hour or two is a no go PERIOD! See PC Gamers look at the new UBI DRM in action.

Just like the debate over music piracy or if video games cause violence in kids, the piracy on the PC debate (from the publishers point of view) is so out of whack and not even close to reality it is not even funny. I wished the big wigs at UBI would take a minute and take a look at what Cliff Harris said in his open letter to UBI or any of his other posts about piracy and DRM. Right now UBI is creating a problem and making it worse instead of honestly approaching the issue.

If you look at the responses over at PC Gamer you see exactly what Cliff Harris saw in his look at DRM and I already heard from people I know. This scheme will make any future UBI games even more prone to piracy. It will be cracked within hours of release, available for download and people will just go with the easy way of running the game. No DLC promise, no supposed “benefit” for gamers in your new system will change that.

As it looks right now… fair well UBI, with this DRM you might as well save yourself the pain and develop for the PC. This will not fly and neither I or any of the people I know will put up with it and buy this or your future games for the PC.

I also vote against this form of DRM. I will not support any ubisoft products from now on until release this leash that they place on all their genuine customers. I love being a PC gamer and not be trusted. I love Stardocks attitude to it all, and I love supporting that publisher because of that. (oh, and it’s also becuase they publish great games.. :) )

Ohh, and keep an eye out for Elemental: War of Magic. :)

    Keep up the good work.
