Sales Everywhere (Mainly on Steam)
by BeerJedi on Jun.25, 2010, under News
My original title was Steam Sale (cause they’re having a huge summer sale) but then I came across Gogamer.com and decided that this post needed to be about Sales in general:
(PLease note – FaNatic had posted this in our forums, so big thanks to him for giving us a heads up first!)
In all seriousness, Steam is having a Summer sale that is mind blowing. Tons and Tons of titles are 20-75% or likely more. Here us what you can expect:
60% off ALL Atari Games
33% off ALL Ubisoft Games
75% off of the Call of Duty Collection
75% off 2K complete collection (not including Civ5)
This is a big sale. Head on over and see what games you may find. I’m looking to see if there is anything I wanted and never got or new/old games I never tried. This is a big sale and goes till July 4th!
My recommended Purchases:
1. Altitude for $3.40 – Absolutely worth this. Chump change for a bad ass little Indie game
2. THQ Complete Pack – $49.99 (you save $370!!!!) And get access to two complete series a lot of the PCPC folks around here play. You get BlackThunder’s Company of Heroes he is always constantly playing and Scooders Dawn of War. All of it. Plus several other titles.
3. Gratuitous Space Battles for $9.99 – you’ve heard us talk about this on PodCast. Good opportunity
4. Dawn of Discovery Gold – $20.09 – a bit of a push since this is an Ubisoft title, but for one like me who like empire building games, this is a very nice Franchise.
And not to be outdone: Big Titles on GoGamer.com for cheap:
1. Napolean: Total War -$29.90
2. Just Cause 2: $29.90
3. APB $39.90
I checked out deals on Direct2Drive and they’re not even close to Steams deals. They have Bioshock 2 on sale for $24.95 vs Steam’s $14.95
I checked on other sites as well: Impulsedriven.com is running a few sales for titles I’m not familiar with. EBGames and Microsoft’s Live are not selling anything in particular.
So there you have it. Enjoy

This sale is freakin awesome! I can’t believe I got Bioshock 2 for $15. I also picked up the Witcher for $7.60, Killing Floor for $5 and Clive Barker’s Jerico for $1.70 (I know, I know, I’ve just always wanted to play it. It’s less than a freakin candy bar!) I love these Steam sales. It always let’s me pick up the games that I want to play, but don’t want to pay full, or even half price for.

Sales are supposed to be good news right?
Under a small amount of peer pressure I purchased L4D2 on Thursday for the full price of $30.
I saw that it was on sale for only $10.20 on Saturday/Sunday. I wasn’t a happy camper.
I posted a ticket on the Account/Support site for Billing requesting a Steam credit for the difference. I was surprised how quickly I received a response. However, the response was not what I expected.
“Thank you for contacting Steam Support. The terms and transaction, including the price, were outlined at the time of your purchase. Our billing system is automated and we have no option to offer a partial refund on a game or to apply a credit to your account.”
Had I gone to Best Buy, or any brick and morter store here in Texas, I have 15 days to reclaim a credit or partial refund on any purchase that has gone on sale in the meantime.
Any thoughts? I’m basically screwed out of $10.00 that could have gone towards another game.

That sucks. I look at is as a sort of stock market game. I know that Steam is going to have games on sale, but which ones, when and for how much is the question. I got SupCom 2 for $11 a couple weeks ago on Steam. Now they have it for about $7.50. It’s not quite the price differential that you have, but same idea. You could look at it this way; had you gone to a brick and mortar store; you probably would have had to pay $40 or $50, plus sales tax (if they have that in Texas). Hind site is always 20/20. Also, if they offered that kind of a refund, they probably wouldn’t be able to put games on sale for so cheap because of all the payouts they would have to do. This probably doesn’t make you feel any better, just trying to put together a logical explanation for why you can’t get your partial refund.

I see your point. But at the same time, while I had no problem paying $30 on Steam or $50 at Best Buy, I could go back to Best Buy and get a $10.00 credit to put into another game purchase, or even an Atlas or Strat Guide.
The money get’s put back into the store at no extra cost to the store. Even more so regarding Steam. What inventory expenses do they have?
I’m venting…I’ve been a proponent to Steam since it was invented. It just pisses me off when I’ve spent as much money as I have and not even get a second look at the very first problem I have with the service.

I agree Mr. NakedFable that it sucks. You are correct that at a brick and mortar store, you could get a refund, but with Steam, you cannot. It is one of the things I found out recently when they were doing some four-pack deals on some games. I wanted to buy the four pack, and share it with some friends, but I found out they all already bought it, and couldn’t cancel the pre-order.
It annoyed me, and I read some of the fine print (finally) but hey, thats what you deal with in this biz. Oh well, its not that bad, you just have to wait it out. Thats what I have been doing. Heck, if I knew AP was going to be like 17 bucks cheaper just a few days ago, I would have waited! But I didn’t and now I pay the piper! Oh well.

I hear you Naked. Either way, you got hit. Let me know if you want to play some L4D2. My Steam ID is Icynuts. You might as well get some use out of it
