The Asus G73HJ – What’s wrong with this picture?
by Fascinator on Oct.30, 2010, under Hardware
After a debating with myself, I decided to pull the trigger and upgrade the 1600×900 screen that came in the laptop to a 1920×1080 screen, the pics below are my adventure.
This last shot is not a great shot of the screen as it looks washed out from this really low angle, but I like the angle. I can take a better one if anyone is curious about a direct view.

Good job Fascinator!!! that’s a sweet project.
I’ve done some work with laptops before but never with the monitor, i’m always so scared when I have to detach one of those. I never trust those connectors they look so fragile.
Was it more expensive than just getting a high res one to start with? I swear we are sometimes like hotrod enthusiasts, it’s not how much we save it’s just the fun of tinkering.

When I bought mine at Best Buy, they didn’t offer a 1080 version, on the lower res. I was looking online at them that did offer a hi-res but the wait time was way too long, I think when I was looking there was just short supply.
So I bought the one at Best Buy, just knowing in the future I would upgrade the screen myself. Laptop LCD’s are so cheap now, at least I think so – that the price was right to go ahead and pick one up and install it.
As far as laptops go, I generally do purchase a laptop with no intentions of ever doing major work on it, but that seemed to have change this time around. I think the processor needs an upgrade next.
