HAHA same here bro, just got the same stuff but I got a better motherboard, got the ASUS p67-WS
How high u clock urs up to now?
January 26th, 2011 on 12:57 am
I looked at the WS and the draw just wasn’t there. The only board I would have chosen over this is the Sabertooth. But since I was buying local and didn’t want to wait on newegg, I got the Pro instead.
It’s stock atm, bout to take it to the moon though

Let us know how the new Intel overclocking goes. It’s supposed to be tricky because it overclocks everything at once right?

Nice Chang. What CPU chip is that? I can’t read it from the picture.

It’s the 2600K. I started to just go with the 2500K, but decided against buyers remorse that I would have undoubtedy had in a week or 2.

Yes and no. That’s where the K series with the unlocked multipliers come in. The base clock is 100Mhz. So far, for my setup at least, going past 103 has been bad. BUT, the K series gives you up to 57x. In a perfect world that would be… mmmm 57 x 103 = 5.87Ghz?
I dunno bout ZERO, but I’m aiming for 5Ghz. The Auto Overclocker got me to 4.78Ghz just this morning with just a few reboots. Getting that last 220Mhz is gonna be the challenge though.

For those that are curious about how it all works.

Hey Bud,
Just be careful with o/c on this puppy, mine i5 2500k died after 7 days with mild o/c on 4.6 ghz
Same mobo on newest beta bios from Asus.
There is some info :

I think my ram rated 1.65V might have fried CPU.
BTW love podcast, shout out to whole PcPcGames crew from Poland

I just bought the same combo from Microcenter here, went with 2500K though.

interesting…. The auto OC in the bios had the voltages everywhere so i ditched it and set it up myself. started prime at 4.7Ghz this morning before I left for work. With any luck it will be still going when I get home

LOL
Probably, do I regret it? Nope.
Am I gonna freak out and return it like a lot of other people on the net? Nope.
Would I return parts that you just bought and were planning to build a rig with or built a rig last week? Nope.
Would I buy it right now, knowing what Intel revealed on yesterday? Probably not. If you haven’t spent money already, wouldn’t hurt to wait it out
If you read the fine print (which I suspect the paranoid and/or spectators haven’t), the issue only effects the 4 SATA II ports running off of the chipset and under certain conditions. Being high voltage and high temperatures within a 3 year timespan. To me that says that I have a pretty good while before I should expect any oddities like speed degradation or drive disconnects. Within a few weeks, we should hear about how OEMs and board partners are planning to handle it. After that, I’ll start looking into an RMA.
