A very nice video talking about video gaming.

Sometimes we all fall in too deep into the lore of video gaming, the fight of video gaming, the experience of video gaming, the achievements of video gaming. It’s nice to give ourselves a little reality check

now he’ll never miss an episode of “The Bachelor” again, take that game industry
. (BTW have you ever noticed how the tv industry always airs specials on the negative effects of gaming, number 1 being loss of revenue to them)
End of the video is pretty good, any addiction is like that though, how many people are stuck to the tv while life goes by? I think tv and exercise are the only 2 socially acceptable addictions.

I agree Wonko, I have lots of addictions and one is sex. I might barbicue my wife later and put it on Youtube.

Just a couple things. Driving back and forth from LA to Newyork is also a waste of time, cause you could fly or take the train. Reading “War and Peace” is also a waste of time. It’s a dry read with no humor and no dragons, quests or XP. Games are not addictive, people have personalitys that make them prone to addiction. Boo Hoo my-life sucks cause I made bad choices. It couldn’t possibly be his fault so he blames video games.

I dont really think he is directly saying all video gamers are bad. He is saying tht we have a life outside of gaming and sometimes we forget that. I think his main targets are those who play 24/7 living in thier mom’s basement with no job. Beerjedi is a great example of a perfect casual gamer. He plays his share amount but family always first. You have to agree there are people that seriously addicted to video gaming. I think it’s funny that in his youtube channel comment, many people blame him for blaming video games. Take it as punch in the face or slight advice, it just gives us a little reality check imo.

It’s an interesting piece. I still have lots of questions though. What kind of gamer was he? Did he get divorced because he played too many games? The notion of what he is trying to express should have been left more high level, like at entertainment. You could replace video games with any other form of non-physically addictive activities such as watching movies, watching reality shows, working out, knitting, whatever. If you shut yourself out from the outside world and ignore your responsibilities in lieu of your hobby, then that’s probably means you need to find a better balance in your life, or quit your hobby, like this guy did. I like the message he is trying to get out. He is simply using video games as a vehicle for it.

This is not a place for well articulated, thought out, non-biased observations. I am sorry but I will have to report you.
PS: I was just going to post– Icynuts +1. But i thought this was better.

I can personally say that video games are not one of my many addictions, but one of my primary sources of entertainment. I have not had cable in well over 2 years and aside from the occasional youtube vid or movie I consume very little other visual media. In the type of economy that we are facing today you have to ask yourself ‘can I afford to do this’ at every turn of the corner and for myself the the answer is generally no. How much does it cost a person to drive from NY to L.A. with gas prices over three dollars a gallon? How many games would that get you on steam, or how many months of a subscription MMO could you pay up, and how many hours of entertainment could you get out of that? I wouldn’t say that I am personally offended by the directors view points here, I was once addicted to gambling and made the choice to stop and never go to a casino again, so if his choice to play video games helped him in his life I wish him the best. For me and many of the people I know video games are an escape from a world of television and media that we personally don’t enjoy or relate to. so when I play 4 hrs of Mass effect 2 or 6 hours of WoW in a day, it generally means I had nothing better to do and it is, and has been for a long time, for what the general public has decided is the acceptable form of sedentary entertainment, Television.
