My bid to support STEAM

by on Nov.07, 2011, under News

I looked at what Modern Warefare 3 brings to the table. One thing that was a blast with Modern Warfare was the Co-op missions. I talked about it during some podcasts and I have fond memories of playing the Co-op during thanksgiving while my brothers in law where here. So, since I am skipping out on EA and Origin and figured I treat myself on my birthday to MW3 in the hope that the co-op will rock!

    Obviously you don’t recall how horrible CoD-Black Ops release was? The game was unplayable on dual core computers.

    At that point I decided, without exception, to never purchase another infinity ward game ever.

    When you purchase an iWard game, you’re supporting console development, not PC development. MW3 is going back to match making, which means more hacks. Hacks are ultimately what ruined MW2 for me.

    There will be dedicated servers, but my understanding is that they will not count towards your rank. This stinks, because it means that only the match making matches count towards your rank. And again, match making is where the hacks really thrived.

    Further more, I believe the player cap for MW3 multiplayer is 32 players. Myehh.. 32 players, how 2009′ish of them :D .

    So while you may be supporting steam, you’re ultimately supporting a developer that has console as it’s primary interest. When Dice developed BF3, they targeted the PC first, and scaled down for the consoles. It is why the visuals are so amazing.

    So, feel free to support steam. You do it at the detriment of the platform we all love the most – PC.

    Happy Bday BT. Looking forward to your review of the game.

    I don’t fully agree with you Libertarian. I’ve really enjoyed the CoD series including Black Ops and MW2. I picked up MW3 as well as BF3 and from my opinion, MW3 as a much better campaign so far. I was very disappointed in the BF3 campaign that I didn’t play more than 30 minutes of it. Yes, the multiplayer for MW3 is just like MW2, but I still enjoy playing it. I’m excited to play the Co-Op.

    I enjoyed MW2 — A LOT. But, hacking became absurd and the game became more frustration than fun.

    COD-BOs was a complete bust for me. I was so excited about it’s release, I took a day off from work. The preload unlocks on steam and I get ready to play…

    Then I discover it’s poorly optimized for dual core processors. At the time dual core processors were a common occurrence. I had dropped $60 for a game that was completely unplayable on my PC.

    A couple of weeks later, we get a patch. And the game was playable, but just not interesting to me. It felt slower than MW2.

    I can’t comment on single player, because well I was so turned off by my initial experience.

    I lost a lot of money that day, because I burned a vacation day and $60 for a complete flop. I am glad your experience was better than mine, but for me COD-BOPS was a big bust. I’m still bitter over it.

    @Libertarian
    I guess I never had any of the issues that you had, and I can understand why you might be so bitter about all of it.
